Sapa has been
becoming a major tourist destination of north Vietnam, a natural starting point
for the unique experiences in the mountainous area, which includes the Hoang
Lien Son mountain range, Indochina’s highest peak of Fansipan (3,143m) and 5
different hill-tribes, each one colourful, distinct, and with its own language
and cultural values. Some of the villages, especially the more remote ones, are
still largely untouched by modern ways of life.
A few times a year they invite the local people from the villages to the
lodge so they can perform there authentic music and dances. By doing so, they
have a unique opportunity to show their guests another side of there lifestyle.
The music and dancing together with their colourful clothing are all part of
celebrations at the villages at different times of the year.
This is a special place that everyone can visit again. The lodge is
deeply respectful to local people and the environment. Local minorities staff
the lodge and guide hikes and bike rides throughout the area. The lodge is on a
working rice farm, so local people are working the rice terraces with their
buffalo on the hillsides surrounding the lodge. Pretty, comfortable rooms dot a
hilltop with stunning vistas. There's even a petanque court! Excellent, fresh
local food and a good selection of drinks are served at the main lodge, where
guests gather to relax and play games. This is such a little gem-- at a really
reasonable price. It's great for family but is also a nice spot for a couple on
a romantic holiday
